Phuket is your gateway to the underwater pleasures of the Andaman Sea.
Diving in South-East Asia doesn't get much better than the Similan Islands National Marine Park and Richelieu Rock which in the world's Top Ten dive sites.
In addition to the Similan Islands many of the liveaboard boats include both Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, as well as the Surin Islands, and occassionally Burma / Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago and Burma Banks on their schedule. Liveaboard operators also schedule trips to southern Andaman and take in such sites as Phi Phi, Hin Daeng and HIn Muang.
Phuket is the only resort area from which you can dives all of the best dive sites that Thailand has to offer. As well as the liveaboards there are the fantastic local dives sites such as Shark Point, perfect for capturing pictures of resting Leopard Sharks, the King Cruiser car ferry that is 80 meters long and resting at a depth of 30 meters plus of course Koh Doc Mai, Anemone Reef and Phi Phi Island to name but a few.
When you are not diving Phuket has some awesome beaches, fantastic Internatioanl standard shopping and of course its famous nightlife but you still need somewhere to sleep after all that fun and Phuket has ahuge choice.
Patong is the centre for the nightlife and is very popular with the younger holidayers. There is a nice beach but it is not that suitable for families with younger children due to the number of jet ski's and speed boats that operate at high speeds close to the shore.
Karon & Kata are the next two beaches as you head south from Patong and these are a lot more laid back, there are still plenty of bars are restaurants but the awesome beaches are far more peacefull and are much more popular with those looking for a more relaxing holiday and those with young families.
